A BOXING day auction held in a Town on Anglesey managed to raise £1,915.50.

Held in the Amlwch community, the auction has become an annual event held on December 26 and the total raised this year saw them beat last year's sum.

The money will now be distributed to the Copperfest organisation, in order to try and get the popular musical festival back up and running during the summer of 2018.

Some of the items sold at the auction included a signed Jamie Carragher shirt from Liverpool's UEFA Champions League winning season of 2004-05 and a boxing glove signed by Joe Calzaghe.

The Amwlch Town vs Port match also took place earlier in the afternoon, which helped add more money to the total sum raised by the community.

The match, played at the Octel, drew a large crowd as two goals from Jack Griffiths handed the Townies a 2-1 victory.

Alan Gray, who was one of the organisers of the auction, said: "The amount raised from this year's auction is absolutely amazing! Well done to everyone.

"Great community spirit like this makes me very proud to be from Amlwch and call this place my hometown.

"I would like to say a very big thank you to all those who have helped me with both the football match and the auction itself."

Prior to this event, members of the Amlwch community had already raised £4,519 for local charities and people with disabilities over the past two years.
