A FOOTBALL team on Anglesey will be doing their bit for the community on Boxing Day as they host a special match.

Llandegfan FC, who play in the Kon-X Anglesey League, will be taking part in a one-off fixture against veterans of the club in order to raise money for a chosen charity (which is yet to be decided).

Members of the public are invited to take a walk down to the club's restored pitch on Lon Ty Newydd for some festive footballing action as the current squad take on familiar faces from the past.

Kick-off will be at 1pm and after the game, players from both sides, as well as the fans, will gather at the nearby Pen Y Cefn pub for refreshments and a good chat about the match and the season so far.

A percentage of the proceeds raised on the day will also be put towards the club itself in order to help them with their progression as a team.

Having been without a team for nearly four years, Llandegfan have returned to action this year and are looking to get involved in even more community activities in 2018.

"Holding a veterans match is not only for a bit of festive fun, but also to raise money for a good cause and bring the local community together." Player-manager Jordan Love, who has hit five goals so far this season, explained.

"It’s been a really tough and demoralising first half of the season for the lads, but I am hoping that we can progress and strengthen as a team during 2018.

"We have never been here to win trophies. Hopefully that’ll be next year!

"However, we want to bring football back to the village and this Boxing Day event will bring the community back together.

"Players in the veteran team will range in age all the way from 16-65!"

Anyone wishing to take part should get in touch with the Llandegfan Football Club page on Facebook.
