A TOWN on Anglesey will be doing its part to help the community this Boxing Day.

The annual Amlwch Port v Townies football match will take place in the Town and will be followed by an auction in order to raise money for Copperfest 2018 as they look to reform the popular musical event.

Earlier this year, organisers of Copperfest announced that it would be the final time they would be staging the event.

However, members of Amlwch community groups have rallied together in attempts to make sure that it goes ahead again next year.

Should the festival not go ahead however, then all proceeds from the match and charity night will be distributed evenly between community groups in the town and port areas.

Each player involved in the football match will donate £5 to play and further proceeds will be collected from spectators.

The auction will take place from 7.30pm at the Liverpool Arms.

One of the top items up for grabs, which already has a £500 bid on it, is a signed Jamie Carragher shirt from Liverpool's Champions League winning 2005 season, which has been donated by the man himself on behalf of the "Carra 23 foundation".

Other memorabilia to be auctioned on the night include a signed glove by boxing hero Joe Calzaghe, a photo signed by former Welsh footballer Dean Saunders, a shirt signed by Everton legend Duncan Ferguson and a Manchester United street sign, signed by members of the current 2017/18 squad.

A raffle will also be held on the night with some great prizes to be won.

Alan Gray has been busy all year round collecting signed memorabilia for the auction.

"I started getting in touch with football clubs to ask for signed items so that we could auction them off and boost our total of funds." he explained.

"It’s a great thing for our Town to help local people out, particularly at Christmas, and it’s brilliant to have been a part of what is now, a renowned annual tradition for us."

In two years, the community within the Town have managed to raise £4,519 for local charities and people with disabilities.
