HOLYHEAD Hotspur were unable to book their place in the Huws Gray Cup final after a 3-0 semi-final home loss to Flint Town United.

The Holy Islanders were unable to build on their superb midweek win over Porthmadog and fell narrowly short in their pursuit of silverware against Niall McGuinness’ improving side.

Campbell Harrison’s men will now look to end their league campaign on a high after a disappointing recent run of eight straight defeats when they host Caersws on Saturday (2.30pm).

The home side got off to the worst possible start and fell behind after just five minutes when Alli Sherriff found the net from close range after an initial effort was blocked.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who almost levelled midway through the half when a fierce Kenleigh Owen drive flew inches over the upright after neat approach play from Mel McGinness.

They were made to pay for this miss shortly after as the away side doubled their advantage after 24 minutes, with Andy Brown turning in a Jack Stewart free-kick past Paul Pritchard and into the corner.

After the break saw Pritchard pull off two incredible saves to keep his side in the tie, while Spurs were left frustrated by the impressive United rearguard and failed to create a chance of note.

The contests was finally sealed in stoppage time when the visitors rounded off the scoring thanks to a neat finish from substitute Morgan Jones, and to make matters worse Dan McGinness received his marching orders for dissent.

Flint will now play Gresford Athletic in the showcase following their win over Llandudno Junction, with the final set to be played on May 5 at the home of Ruthin Town.
