BANGOR were left counting the cost of a poor batting display in their seven-wicket home loss to Denbigh.

The North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions failed to recover from a poor spell at the crease to suffer their second defeat of the campaign, and the third-placed side will be hoping for better fortune next Saturday when they travel to Chirk.

In-form batsman David Winter was run out by Tom Schrimshaw after failing to contribute a single run early on, while Nadeem Rehman (6) suffered a similar fate at the hands of Andy Thomas soon after.

Skipper Robbie Marshall made just two when he was caught off a Sam Lewis delivery, and the same bowler also disposed of Johnny Wells (3), Chris Dawson (9), Peter Jones (12) and Saif Ijaz (0) throughout the innings to end a superb nine over spell with figures of 5-17.

The home side continued to struggle as Stuart Griffiths saw off Sion Evans for 16, with only Idrees Ijaz (20) and Ethan Ray (12) making it into double figures as they were skittled for 102 from 45 overs.

Despite losing Thomas and captain Harrison Jones for ten and four in the opening exchanges, the visitors reached their required total with minimal fuss, with opener Gerallt Lyall getting them off to a good start with a knock of 29 before he was trapped lbw by Rehman.

Lewis continued his fine form on the day with an unbeaten 19 to further aide his side’s cause, while Schrimshaw hit five boundaries on his way to 37 not out as the away side secured victory after 32 overs at the crease.

There was better fortune for Bangor’s second unit, who sealed a 92-run triumph at Llay Welfare thanks in no small part to a superb 92 from Andrew Savage.
