BANGOR came away from their home clash against newly promoted Pwllheli with a six-wicket victory.

The North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions fought hard against a spirited effort from Michael Hughes men, and they will look to make it three wins in succession when they travel to Connah’s Quay on Saturday.

The home side got off to a flyer in the field when Waleed Idrees disposed of opener Chris Moore for just one, but this was swiftly met by a stand of 87 for the second wicket from the talented pair of Swapnil Kate (47) and Morgan Murray-Williams (44).

Jason Underwood also kept the scoreboard ticking over before he was caught off a Chris Dawson delivery, and the same bowler also sent wicketkeeper Lawrence Barraclough (0) back to the pavilion on his way to figures of 3-54.

The tandem of Gareth Edwards and Jonny Wells also took a pair of wickets apiece, while Guto Roberts finished unbeaten on 16 as the away side set a target of 204-9 from their 50 overs at the crease.

Opener Sion Evans hit a promising 30 for the home side to get them off to a positive start, while partner David Winter also produced a scintillating knock to put his side further in the ascendancy.

The in-form batsman produced a number of impressive strokes until he was run out by Roberts on 75, and Nadeem Rehman was a standout presence at the other end and secured a half century with 52 not out.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, and despite skipper Robbie Marshall (9) and Wells (9) leaving cheaply it was not enough to prevent the hosts from reaching their target with 14 balls to spare.

There was no such luck for Bangor’s second unit, who were on the wrong end of a six-wicket defeat to Gresford.
