MENAI Bridge captain Dion Holden is confident his side can go one better and claim the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title.

The fancied side finished second last term but have a number of key acquisitions that have strengthened them considerably, and they will look to get their campaign off to the best possible start when they welcome newly promoted Northop on Saturday.

Overseas star Zach Ringrose will not be returning for a third season due to work commitments in New Zealand, but this loss has been offset with the acquisition of talented seamer Patrick Glover from Mochdre.

The all-rounder was one of the shining lights for the relegated side last term, and the Adelaide native is sure to be a huge asset to Bridge as the campaign progresses.

Wicketkeeper Jack Gower is another that will be expected to contribute heavily after spending the winter playing in Australia, and the gifted batsman is also hoping to be involved with the Warwickshire set-up for the second consecutive season.

Another exciting addition to the squad is batsman Ed Gatsby, who arrives from nearby Bodedern, while Luke Jones is another eye-catching addition and returns to the club following a spell at Formby in the Liverpool and District League.

Holden will also benefit from the presence of Andrew Wannop, with the bowler making a return to the game after a number of seasons away.

Josh Massey is also an exciting young talent at the club who will be playing for the Welsh age group side this summer before he starts his sports scholarship at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay in September.

Holden, said: “We finished second in the league last year so we are hoping to go one better this season.

“We have definitely got the squad to go all the way, we just need to make sure we put in consistent performances which I am confident the lads can do.

“We have a quite a few senior players in our squad now who know what it takes to win the league, hopefully they can take that experience into the season and put out some big performances.”
