CAERNARFON Town’s young squad are readying themselves for a big summer of preparation before they embark on their triumphant return to the JD Welsh Premier League.

It promises to be a memorable year ahead for everyone associated with the club, and Dean Jones takes a look at five players that are set to thrive at the elite level of Welsh football.

Danny Brookwell:

While Darren Thomas rightfully gains the majority of the plaudits for his efforts this season, Brookwell has been quietly establishing himself as one of the top young prospects in the region and he is sure to pose plenty of problems for top flight defenders next term.

He possesses a tremendous engine and has the quality to match, and manager Sean Eardley can be confident that the pacey forward can transition his skills over to the WPL and make a real impact on their return.

Jamie Breese:

There would not be many that would argue that Breese does not deserve a crack at the top level. He has been a consistent goalscorer both for the Cofis and Llanidloes Town in the second tier in recent seasons and is widely considered to be one of the most feared marksman operating outside of the WPL.

Breese gives the Canaries so much more than just goals thanks to his willingness to defend from the front and bring others into play, and while the quality of opposition will be a lot tougher next season what works in his favour is that he will have something to prove at the top of the pyramid.

Clive Williams:

Williams is another that has been one of the leading lights for Town this season, and his leadership by example has been a constant feature for the Huws Gray Alliance throughout the campaign.

There is no doubt he has the ability to perform at the WPL level, but the striking talented operating within the division has never been higher, which will test his impressive skills considerably.

His versatility is another asset that Eardley will call upon next term, with his talent for shutting down midfielders sure to be used when needed.

Rhys Roberts:

The former Holyhead Hotspur captain did not disappoint following his summer arrival, and he has been a colossal presence at the back for a side that has conceded just 29 goals this season.

He has also proven to be a threat at the other end of the pitch and as is the case with Williams, the step up to WPL level could be the making of him.

Alex Ramsay:

One of the most talented keepers operating anywhere in the region and possibly beyond, Ramsay’s shot stopping gifts have been there for all to see once again this season and he has become an indispensable member of the Cofis’ squad.

There will be times throughout the season that Town will be put under considerable pressure mixing it with some of the very best in the country, and although this is something they are not accustomed to with someone like Ramsay operating between the sticks can provide an assuring presence that will be both needed and welcome.
