CAERNARFON Town secured promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League with a 2-0 win at Caersws.

The Cofis are back in the big time after a memorable Huws Gray Alliance campaign, and with Holywell Town drawing at Penrhyncoch their path to the top flight was assured.

Manager Sean Eardley will be hoping for silverware when they are next in action on Wednesday when they travel to basement dwellers Llandudno Junction (6.30pm), where a win would see the long-time leaders finally secure the title.

Club captain Nathan Craig, said: “For me personally it means a lot as I’ve said a lot recently I grew up on the street right next to the Oval and I have great memories of watching the Cofis against the likes of Bangor City when I was also a ball boy.

“So to captain my hometown club and take us in to the Welsh Premier League means a lot as there has also been a lot of hard work by committee members, match day volunteers and the supporters over the years to get us to where we are today.”

The away side made a scintillating start to proceedings and went ahead on four minutes when Rhys Roberts prodded home from close range after his initial header from a Craig free-kick rattled the woodwork.

Things got even better shortly after when another Craig delivery caused havoc in the Bluebirds’ penalty box, and this time it was Cofi talisman Darren Thomas who was on hand to produce a delightful finish on six minutes to double their advantage.

The hosts suffered another blow when replacement keeper Luke Evans was forced to withdraw after number one Dave Jones was injured in the warm-up, meaning Ryan Davies was forced into goal for the remainder of the contest.

Eardley’s side were unable to add to their tally despite Jamie Breese, Shaun Cavanagh and Danny Brookwell missing good chances throughout, but the Canaries managed to see out the game with minimal fuss and book their place in the top flight.
