CAERNARFON Town took another huge step towards clinching the Huws Gray Alliance title with a 4-0 win at Ruthin Town.

Two wins from their remaining three fixtures will secure the title for the Canaries after another impressive overall display, and they travel to Caersws on Saturday (2.30pm) looking to all-but seal their place in the JD Welsh Premier League next term.

Manager Sean Eardley, said: “It was one of the best performances of the season. Ruthin are one of the best in the league, they have good players and Llyr (Morris) up top is top scorer for a reason, so we needed to be on guard but our back five were excellent.

“We had aggression in the right areas and strong in the challenge and when you have a forward line like ours they are always going to cause problems.

“It’s been a great couple of days with us gaining the licence, which put extra pressure on us but also gave us an extra incentive. It has been a learning curve for myself in terms of discussing things with the board and massive credit to absolutely everyone that was involved in all the hard work that goes into it.

“We had to come here and put in a performance, got the job done and kept a clean sheet so I am delighted.”

The visitors got off to the best possible start thanks to a Darren Thomas effort on nine minutes, and they doubled their tally on 37 when the impressive Danny Brookwell steered home.

A stunning individual effort from Jamie Breese on 42 minutes sealed the points just before the break, and the striker was on hand to round off the scoring after the interval with another well-taken effort on 57.

Next up for the title favourites are the Bluebirds, who were recently beaten 5-3 at The Oval and find themselves third-from-bottom in the standings after a campaign of underachievement.
