CAERNARFON Town took another huge step towards the Huws Gray Alliance title with a 5-3 win over Caersws.

The Canaries ended their home campaign in fine style and are now within touching distance of promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League, and the Cofis have another huge chance to pick up three points at basement dwellers Llandudno Junction on Monday.

Manager Sean Eardley, said: “It was a classic case of a game of two halves. Caersws gave us a right good game but we scored some good goals, played some great stuff and caused them a lot of problems.

“We were a little bit flat in the second half which was disappointing as we rested on our laurels a little bit with having such a big lead instead of killing the game off.

“We started well but let them in with two poor goals, we needed to make it more difficult for them but overall I am pleased with the three points.

“With the competitiveness of the league we do work hard on our set pieces as there is not much in tight games, we have got good height and like to take our time with them and it was nice to see two go in.

“It is important that we take nothing for granted against Junction, our eyes have to be on the prize, prepare right and be raring to go. There will be goals but we have to make sure that we are on the right side of the result.”

The home side got off to a strong start and were two-up within the first 17 minutes thanks to efforts from Gareth Edwards and Jamie Crowther, with the former on hand to bag his brace and add a third on 37.

Club talisman Darren Thomas notched a fourth on 42 minutes before Aaron Hughes Jones reduced the arrears just before the break.

After the interval saw Steve Blekinsop give the Bluebirds another on 53, which was met with an instant reply from Jamie Breese on 55.

Craig Harris’ effort on 77 minutes ensured a nervy end to proceedings, but the Cofis held on to maintain their four-point cushion at the summit.
