CAERNARFON Town have called a meeting next week regarding the issue surrounding the evening with Paul Gascoigne.

The fundraising event, which was scheduled for May 18, has reportedly been cancelled after the club’s former commercial director Tris Lee failed to pay the deposit to Gascoigne’s representatives to confirm his attendance for the night.

This has sparked outcry from football fans across the region that purchased tickets, with the Cofis planning to provide an update on the situation at a joint meeting on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for the Huws Gray Alliance side, said: “We will be holding a joint meeting with the Canaries Club on Tuesday, April 3 to appraise all stakeholders on the latest developments regarding the ‘Evening with Paul Gascoigne’ event, which has been planned and arranged by our former Commercial Manager, Tristram Lee.

“The venue and time of the meeting will be confirmed as soon as possible and we will be releasing an official statement regarding all relevant matters, including details of an exciting announcement regarding the future of the club, late on Tuesday evening.

“This weekend sees the first team entering a critical stage in the season and therefore we will be concentrating all our immediate efforts and energy on assisting Sean and his squad in their push for the league title and promotion.”

Mr Lee was offering sponsorship packages up to £3,000 for the dinner with the England icon, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest talents to ever come from the United Kingdom.

Tickets were priced between £75-150, with some of the proceeds also going to regional children’s cancer charity Gafael Llaw.

The former commercial manager did not have his contract renewed and left the club earlier this year, which sparked initial confusion as to whether or not the event would still be going ahead.

The Canaries stated at the time that it was “still going ahead”, but now it has been put on hold although officials remain hopeful it can be rescheduled in the future.

There has been no word regarding available refunds due to the club receiving no money associated with the event run by Mr Lee.

Bryn Evans, one of the people that purchased tickets, said: “I knew this wasn't going to go ahead. But after asking and asking I was assured it still was, hope I get my money back as quick as they took it from my account.”
