CAERNARFON Town Sean Eardley said it was a point gained after his side secured a 1-1 draw at Huws Gray Alliance title rivals Holywell Town.

The Canaries lost the services of Joe Williams and Gareth Edwards for the clash, and keeper Alex Ramsay was forced also forced off during the clash through injury.

Gareth Evans was also sent off for the Cofis late on as they claimed a share of the spoils, and they welcome Caersws on Saturday in what is their final league game at The Oval (2.30pm).

Eardley, said: “First and foremost I am relieved. It was a tremendous effort and we were really tested by a decent Holywell side, but I thought our back-line defended really well and looked assured.

“We expected a tough test and Johnny (Haseldin) had them go from the off. Over the course of the game I thought we had the better of the chances but we also had to dig in to get a result and overall I am happy.

“When you lose senior players you also miss the leadership, but I thought Clive 9Williams) and Rhys (Roberts) were colossal and when your backs are against the wall you need that experience which we have in abundance.

“It was a good advert for the league, two teams going at it with a great atmosphere created by both sets of fans. With the way the game went I think it was definitely a point gained.”

Cofis talisman Darren Thomas put the visitors ahead with a neat finish on 44 minutes, but the Wellmen came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the break and levelled matters on 78 minutes when Sam Jones netted from the penalty spot following an infringement by Jay Crowther.

Evans received his marching orders shortly after, but despite the home side dominating the closing stages the title favourites managed to hold firm to claim a point.
