CAERNARFON Town can all-but clinch the Huws Gray Alliance title with a win at Holywell Town on Saturday.

Another of their championship rivals are next up for Sean Eardley’s men in what has been a difficult turn of fixtures since the turn of the year, which they have coped with incredibly well up until this point.

This has ensured the Canaries remain in pole position to achieve that elusive promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League, and their fighting qualities were on display yet again in their comfortable 3-0 success over Airbus Broughton to eliminate them from the race.

Eardley had been urging his side to get out of the blocks at a much quicker rate that they have done in the past, and they showed their resolve to respond in typically determined fashion on their way to another vital three points.

This not only shows their willingness to listen to their rookie manager, but the collective unity operating within the squad to reach their pre-season objectives.

It has not been easy by any stretch of the imagination since the turn of the year, but the Cofis have opened up a ten-point cushion over the Wellmen, who have two games in hand and along with Denbigh Town are the only realistic duo that can prevent them lifting the title at this stage of the season.

Johnny Haseldin’s side are a formidable outfit and have made Halkyn Road a place where not many teams pick up points, and this is down to the outstanding individuals within the squad and how well they perform consistently as a team.

The talented manager has done a great job of finding the right characters within the dressing room and who also possess match-winning qualities that have been the catalyst behind their success so far this term.

Striker Steve Lewis is no stranger to the Cofi Army and has proven once again what a presence he is at this level with 18 league goals to his name, while veteran Sam Jones has enjoyed something of a renaissance under Haseldin during the season.

This is undoubtedly the hardest game remaining on the schedule for Caernarfon, with Caersws, Llandudno Junction, Ruthin Town and Gresford Athletic also featuring during the run-in.

The final two will be tests of that there is no doubt, but the carrot is definitely there should they manage to claim a win on their travels against a side that has tasted defeat just three times in 20 league contests this season.

It promises to be a phenomenal occasion which is sure to draw another large crowd with plenty of stake for both, and the landscape of the Huws Gray Alliance will change after the result.
