CAERNARFON Town moved one step closer to clinching the Huws Gray Alliance title with a 2-0 home win over rivals Guilsfield.

The Canaries produced an efficient performance to come away with another three points in front of the Cofi faithful, and the promotion hopefuls enjoy a four-point cushion ahead of their trip to Gresford Athletic (2pm).

Manager Sean Eardley, said: “It is a really pleasing result and showed what we were made of.

“We made our intentions clear and imposed ourselves early on, and played in some good areas and the goal came at the right time.

“Second half they came and had a go, they are a very good side and are a tough side to play against, they try to make difficult away from home but another great finish from Danny (Brookwell) when we were under a bit of pressure was fantastic.

“The pleasing thing was the clean sheet and how aggressive and ruthless we were. When you have willing runners, it takes the pressure off and it is a vital three points.

“Thankfully the situation with Nathan (Craig) is getting better and he has unbelievable quality, it was great professionalism shown from him when I decided not to start him and keep the same side. We were dominant and showed aggression in the right areas and it paid off.

“The quality of the squad is why we are where we are in the league and I have a few headaches now, which is a good problem to have ahead of the crucial run-in.”

The mercurial Darren Thomas was on hand to open the scoring following a neat passage of play, and after withstanding some heavy pressure at times they doubled their advantage on 65 minutes when the impressive Danny Brookwell finished well to secure their 14th victory in 21 league contests.
