CAERNARFON Town have a chance to put one of their title rivals out of contention when they square off against Rhyl on Saturday.

The Canaries are currently eight points ahead of Matthew Jones’ side with a game in hand, and three points over the Lilies would see them all but out of contention for the Huws Gray Alliance crown.

Sports reporter Dean Jones outlines three key figures that will have key roles to play in their pursuit of three points.

Shaun Cavanagh:

A recent signing from Llandudno, Cavanagh will be making his home debut in-front of his hometown crowd and he has the ability to win a game on his own if he is in the right mood.

The forward is a mercurial talent and although he can make the wrong decisions at times, he is not afraid to try things out of the ordinary and this is something that could be a huge asset to manager Sean Earley and the squad in this one.

The Cofis boss has already stated that Cavanagh will be starting against the Lilies which shows the faith the manager has in the young starlet, and as long as he keeps calm and focused on the task in hand then he is undoubtedly going to have a huge say on the outcome.

Clive Williams:

The Rhyl frontline has been in rampant mood of late and Williams will have his work cut out if he is to stop them from influencing proceedings at The Oval.

The Cofis backline was left exposed on numerous occasions during their draw at Denbigh Town, and with Rhys Roberts suspended the onus will be on Williams to lead from the front and prevent the likes of Alex Tichiner, Mark Connolly and the returning Phil Marsh from finding the target.

While he may have been something of an unsung hero in recent years, Williams has emerged as a force to be reckoned with this season thanks to his consistency and has played a huge influence on the league leaders.

Adored by the Cofi Army, Williams will need to be dominant for the duration against a formidable Lilies attack if they are to put their promotion rivals in their place.

Jamie Breese:

The defensive frailties that Rhyl have shown in recent weeks have been there for all to see and very well documented, which could mean a very profitable day at the office for one of the brightest finishers operating outside of the JD Welsh Premier League.

Breese has emerged from a difficult start to the season and is now once again firing on all cylinders, which is bad news for the rest of the league and could spell the end of promotion for a resurgent Rhyl side.

While his goalscoring record gathers the headlines, it is the outstanding work that the striker does for the team that is his greatest asset. Breese works tirelessly from the front and puts incredible pressure on a back-line, giving them little time to settle into their stride and also providing a fine example for other members of the side.
