CAERNARFON Town extended their lead at the Huws Gray Alliance summit with a 3- victory over Porthmadog.

The Canaries are now six points clear in their pursuit for promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League following Denbigh Town’s derby defeat at Ruthin Town, and the Cofis have a chance to claim further bragging rights when they begin a tricky run of fixtures at Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday (2.30pm).

Manager Sean Eardley, said: “I thought the boys were tremendous. Port threw everything at us and Rambo (Alex Ramsay) made a great save and I thought Breesey (Jamie Breese) was outstanding.

I have a lot of respect for Port, they try and play the right way and it is a great three points. We asked them to raise it another 20 per cent if possible and they did just that.

“On the balance of play nobody could argue that we deserved it. Sometimes as a manager you think it is going to be one of those days but they were relentless in getting in good positions. Port have players who can hurt you and I thought Gaz Evans covered every blade of grass and was superb.

“We kept knocking on the door and when the third went in it was a feeling of relief really. Breesey gets himself in the right positions and worked his socks off and I was thrilled for him. He really is loved here.

“Holyhead is going to be a tough game and Denbigh will be looking to bounce back after their defeat, we also take on a resurgent Rhyl and have to take on Flint so with January round the corner we are looking to bring in a couple of signings to keep things fresh.”

The home side went ahead on 41 minutes when Jamie Breese found the target, before skipper Nathan Craig doubled their advantage after the break on 51.

Cai Jones got the visitors back into the tie on 75 minutes with a neat finish, but Breese notched his second of the afternoon late on to seal the triumph.
