CAERNARFON Town go into the Christmas fixtures on top of the Huws Gray Alliance after an emphatic 5-0 home success over Penrhyncoch.

The Canaries produced another ruthless attacking display which was the catalyst behind their victory, and Sean Eardley’s side are three points clear of Denbigh Town ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Porthmadog at The Oval (2.30pm).

Eardley said: “I am very pleased, made up with the lads really as it is an old cliché teams when you go to ten and teams do make it difficult.

“They had a gameplan to sit in and get us on the counter and we dealt with it very well.

“I said at half time to keep doing what we are doing and some of the football was very good, some of our play around the box was excellent and it could have been more.

“We had to be patient but it was important for me that we kept our good habits and the result was thoroughly deserved.

“I didn’t really change anything as I felt we were getting enough joy and when you are facing Jay Gibbs, Gaz Evans, Danny Brookwell and Jamie Breese it is going to be a difficult afternoon for any opposition.

“I have got a lot of time for Porthmadog, it is a fantastic club who have some top-drawer players, but we need to prepare right for the game and it should be a fantastic occasion in-front of a large crowd from both sides.”

The home side got off to a flyer when defender Clive Williams found the net after just seven minutes, but the Cofis were frustrated for much of the first half thanks in no small part to some fantastic defending from the visitors.

After the break saw Nathan Craig notch his 12th league goal of the campaign when he converted a penalty on 67 minutes which also saw Sean Meredith sent off for the Roosters, and a quick flurry from the title favourites saw them ad three more in the closing stages through Breese, Evans and Ryan Williams to complete the rout.
