BANGOR City manager Craig Harrison is in the process of assembling a heavyweight squad in pursuit of Huws Gray Alliance glory next season.

The Citizens are aiming to make their stay in the second tier a very brief one, and sports reporter Dean Jones gives his thoughts on the five new arrivals confirmed so far:

Les Davies (Bala Town):

Harrison made a hugely popular move just minutes after he was confirmed at the helm by making ‘The Truck’ his first signing, and Davies’ legendary status throughout the club is going to be a vital asset as they look to secure an instant return to the JD Welsh Premier League.

The burly striker is a commanding presence in the air who holds the ball up superbly, and his physical and sometimes nasty streak have given defenders nightmares across the country for the best part of a decade.

This season will mean an awful lot to the hometown hero, and his connection with the supporters and the club’s rich history could serve as the inspiration City need to get back to the promised land.

Tom Field (Airbus Broughton):

The talented midfielder is sure to provide plenty of bite and creativity in the middle of the park, with the former Everton youth product boasting plenty of experience both in the English and Welsh pyramid system.

He is a very accomplished passer of the ball who is not afraid to put his foot in, and his ability to influence game is going to be another useful tool for Harrison to have as his side acclimatise to life in the second tier.

Sam Barnes (Colwyn Bay):

Barnes is another hugely experienced player who captained the Seagulls last term, and the commanding centre-half is sure to relish the prospect of coming up against the very best attackers operating outside of the top flight.

He is good in the air, is a sold organiser and his leadership qualities will make him a key component of the squad in the coming months.

Jake Phillips (Connah’s Quay):

The dynamic Phillips comes with a very impressive reputation as one of the best young prospects in the area, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on with regular first team football after being on the fringes of Andy Morrison’s squad last season.

He is more than capable of turning any game on its head with a moment of magic, and this could be the difference between success and failure for the Citizens in tight games during the campaign.

Robbie Parry (The New Saints of Oswestry Town):

Having a Welsh Premier League winner within the squad can only be a good thing, but Parry brings far more than just medals to City and is still developing into an outstanding player.

He really stood out at times for Llandudno during his loan spell last term, and his ability to create chances from wide areas on a consistent basis is going to benefit the likes of Davies considerably.

Parry also has a strong eye for goal himself and is an expert in firing in spectacular efforts from long range, and he is another that is set to take the HGA by storm as part of the title favourites.
