BANGOR City will welcome a Welsh boxing icon for a special event later this summer.

The Citizens have announced an evening with Joe Calzaghe, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 26 over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Further details of ticketing information and timings are set to be released in due course for what promises to be a fantastic evening with one of the genuine all-time greats within the sport.

Calzaghe is a former WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA and The Ring Super Middleweight Champion and The Ring Light Heavyweight Champion.

He retired in February 2009 with an undefeated record of 46-0 and as a reigning World Champion.

By 1993 he had held Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) titles in three different weight categories, the first British boxer to do so.

He also held titles from the National Association of Boys Clubs (NABC) and the Gaelic Games. As an amateur boxer, Calzaghe maintained an impressive record of 110 wins out of 120 fights before making his professional debut at Cardiff Arms Park.

Some of his career highlights include a stunning victory over Chris Eubank to win his first world championship, and his epic victory over Jeff Lacy will go down in history as one of the greatest ever performances by any fighter.

Peter Manfredo Jr, Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins also fell to defeat at the hands of Calzaghe, and the Hall of Fame inductee has also made appearances on reality shows Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here following his retirement.
