BANGOR City take their quest for a second placed JD Welsh Premier League finish to the final round of fixtures following a 1-0 win over Cefn Druids.

The Citizens closed out their home campaign with a hard-fought victory against a well-drilled side that have exceeded expectations this term, and City head into Friday’s clash at Bala Town level on points with Connah’s Quay with a three-goal inferior goal difference in the race for Europe.

As fate would have it, the Ancients have the chance to get them into second spot should they triumph against the Nomads at The Rock on the same night.

Manager Kevin Nicholson, said: “I thought we were thoroughly deserving of the win. They pushed us all the way until the end which is to be expected when you are only a goal up, but I thought we played with very good energy and intensity which saw us through.

“It would have been nice to get a second or even a third but it just was not meant to be. A win is a win and it is nice to get that feeling back after the last few weeks.

“I set the lads a challenge to take it into the final day and we have managed to do that. What will be, will be and anything can happen really.

“We go to Bala in high spirits now and hopefully we can put on another good performance and come away with a win.”

The hosts began well and opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Alex Darlington turned in a Stephen Hewitt delivery in fine fashion, and Dean Rittenberg forced a smart stop from Michael Jones just before the break as they went in search of a second.

More chances came and went in the second period, with Rittenberg somehow hit the crossbar from three yards out on 82 minutes, but the home side saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to seal a vital three points.
