BANGOR City reached the JD Welsh Cup semi-finals thanks to a comfortable 7-0 win over giant-killers Penydarren BGC.

The Citizens demonstrated their class throughout the avoid a potential banana skin and book their place in the hat in emphatic style, and the top flight side return to league action this weekend when they face a difficult trip to European qualification rivals Bala Town on Friday evening (7.45pm).

The home side wasted no time in making an impact and went ahead on 11 minutes when a stunning effort from Luke Wall found the top corner.

Things got even better soon after when the hosts doubled their advantage after 23 minutes when Steven Hewitt prodded home from close range after a George Harry strike was initially parried.

After the break saw the Citizens pull further clear within minutes of the restart, with recent signing Yves Zama powering his way past a challenging defender before finishing well.

This visibly deflated the away side and City sealed their passage to the final four on 50 minutes when Wall burst clear and slotted home his second of the afternoon, and Zama also helped himself to a brace a minute before the hour mark during a rampant spell from Kevin Nicholson’s men.

There was still time to rub further salt into the visitors’ wounds, and the exceptional Wall rounded off a superb day at the office by finishing off a fine team move to complete his hat-trick on 82 minutes.

The scoring was complete in stoppage time when the home side were awarded a penalty, and the clinical Zama made no mistake from the spot to seal his treble and finish the rout.

Another boost for City was the first team debut of academy prospect Gethin Thomas, who caught the eye with a composed second half performance and becomes the latest youth product to feature for the senior side.
