BANGOR City moved into second spot with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Cefn Druids.

The Citizens produced a professional performance to claim all three points at The Rock to boost their chances of European qualification at the end of the season, and attention turns to their JD Welsh Cup clash with giant-killers Penydarren BGC on Sunday in-front of the S4C Sgorio cameras (2.30pm).

Manager Kevin Nicholson, said: “I am really pleased, it was a professional and solid job from the players throughout.

“We dominated first 20 minutes but eased off a bit after that, but I felt we could always stay in the game and had the quality to open them up and we managed to do that.

“It was a very good team performance, it is not an easy place to come and I thought we played better than the last time we won here before Christmas.

“We are building momentum now with three wins in four and clean sheets too, and we keep finding ways to win. We have to keep doing the right things and we are in very high spirits.

“The players were excellent in all areas and it gets us closer to our target.

“It’s a break from the league and we went to watch them (Penydarren BGC) on Saturday and we have to make sure we are ready for them and it is a competition that we want to win.”

The away side had the better of the opening exchanges but were unable to convert any of the chances that came their way, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Dean Rittenberg missing their best opportunities.

They finally got their noses in-front on 44 minutes when Stephen Hewitt’s deflected effort found its way into the net.

Things got even better just before the interval when Yves Zama was brought down in the box, and Hewitt stepped up to slot home the spot kick in stoppage time to double their advantage.

The Ancients tried valiantly to get back into the contest after the break, but City held firm and saw out the game in comfortable fashion.
