BANGOR City boss Kevin Nicholson praised his side’s attacking prowess as they secured a 3-1 win over Newtown.

The Citizens ended a run of three games without a goal with a much-improved performance to get back to winning ways, and the third placed side face another stern test of their credentials at leaders The New Saints of Oswestry Town to close out Phase One of the JD Welsh Premier League season.

Nicholson, said: “We are delighted to get back to winning ways and to score three goals was a relief and really important.

“I thought we deserved it but there are areas we could have been better in the second half in terms of managing the game and keeping possession, but I am pleased with the character and we did the things we wanted to do when they pegged us back and kept attacking to get the third.

“All the goals were well taken and it was nice to get back scoring and win a game of football. Every player contributed to the performance and made a difference towards it.

“TNS is a tough one for every team but have beaten them this season and we are aware they’re in very good form. We are looking forward to going there and playing similar way if not even better.”

The home side began well and went on 17 minutes through a fantastic effort from layer-assistant manager Gary Taylor-Fletcher, and they doubled their advantage when Academy product George Harry notched his first senior goal for the club on 52.

Chris Hughes’ men began to impose themselves on proceedings thereafter and found a route back into the contest on 70 minutes when Neil Mitchell reduced the deficit with a well taken effort.

This was as good as it got for the visitors as they failed to find another way past the resolute City rearguard, and the hosts wrapped up the points late on when the impressive Harry fired in his second of the evening on 86 minutes.
