BANGOR City made it three games without a goal as they fell to a last gasp 1-0 home defeat to derby rivals Llandudno.

The Citizens suffered another blow to their JD Welsh Premier League title hopes despite suffering their first defeat in ten outings, and they will look to get back to winning ways this Friday when they host Newtown (7.45pm).

Manager Kevin Nicholson, said: “I am bitterly disappointed with the end result after dominating large parts of the game.

“We couldn’t find a way of scoring and to lose as we did at the end was even more difficult. When your luck’s out it is out and maybe we need a goal like theirs to kick-start us again.

“The players are putting in the effort but we were unfortunate with key figures coming off so we had to shift things about, but that’s football and you get on with it.

“When you’re on a run of not scoring need belief that something can get going again. We will move on to the next game but again put things into perspective, it is one defeat in ten and hopefully we can kick on.”

A tight opening saw both sides cancel each other out for the most part, but the away side were unfortunate not to go in-front with Danny Hughes, Mike Williams and Shaun Cavanagh all missing chances, while at the other end Dean Rittenberg and Luke Wall forced keeper Dave Roberts into action just before the break.

After the interval saw Hughes go close again when his thunderous drive was diverted by Matthew Hall, before Wall and Rittenberg combined to respond and create a decent opportunity to take the lead down the other end, but the latter struck wide.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher had a superb opportunity as the game reached its closing stages to head the ball home from some six yards out, but Roberts denied the player-assistant with a stunning stop.

The turning point arrived in the final minute when Marc Williams blocked a clearance from Hall and managed to get to the rebound first to prod the ball home from close range.

“After the Boxing Day game few questions asked and can’t fault work rate but got to realise bit of a scalp for teams now and teams will sit back and catch us on the break,” added Taylor-Fletcher.

“We need a bit of luck and didn’t deserve to lose the game. There was a lack of quality in the final third and I include myself in that. We were knocking on the door but whether we were asking the right questions I don’t know.”
