BANGOR City occupy second spot in the JD Welsh Premier League standings after a hard fought 2-0 win at Cefn Druids.

The Citizens produced another accomplished performance to emerge with three points from the Rock, and Kevin Nicholson’s side will be hoping for further success when they travel to basement dwellers Carmarthen Town on Saturday (2.30pm).

Nicholson, said: “It was an excellent win and we are really pleased. We wanted to get back to winning ways and it was important as we knew before the game where it would take us.

“It varies at the moment with so many playing on different days, but getting points on the board is the main thing and to have 34 after 17 is a very good return which we can hopefully build on.

“I thought the first goal was very good, we built from the back and finished it off great inter-change. I’m delighted for Dean (Rittenberg) he is full of confidence and scoring so long may that continue.

“The most pleasing thing albeit we made hard work of it second half was that we learnt lessons from last week against Barry Town United. It was the same situation where the job wasn’t done against very honest Druids team, and 1-0 is always a dangerous scoreline bit we concentrated and did the basics well and once the second goal came it was comfortable.”

The away side got off to a flyer when Rittenberg finished off a fine team move on eight minutes, which also involved some impressive approach play from Danny Gossett.

They had to withstand some pressure in periods thereafter, but they finally wrapped up the points on 83 minutes when Luke Wall diverted home after good work from Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Gossett and Brayden Shaw.

“We have a lot of games over Christmas and have started the month unbeaten, so we want to stay that way up until the New Year and hopefully win as many as possible,” added Nicholson.
