A SINGLE run defeat at Brymbo cost Menai Bridge First Hydro the leadership of the premier division of the Readers Romida North Wales Cricket League.
It was a day of disappointing defeats for the area's top trio as Bethesda lost at Llandudno and Bangor went down at Llanrwst.
It was even more disappointing for Bridge's Aussie James Coate who shone with bat and ball, taking 5 for 40 to help put
the hosts back in the pavilion for a modest 148 in 53 overs, David Lloyd top scoring with 72.
Coate led the run quest with 63, but lacked support with Andy Skeoch (18) best of the rest, Gerallt Roberts earning a controversial leg before decision with the visitors on 147 to end the innings.
Chris Truelove took 5 for 37.
Bangor were put in on a damp wicket in a late start at Llanrwst and were bowled out for 101, Max Rundle (22) and Andy Williams (20) the best for the visitors as Alun Williams snapped up 3 for 38.
The hosts were in deep trouble at 3 for 4 as Gareth Edwards (3 for 23) made early inroads, but Aussie Rohan Wright steadied the innings to steer Llanrwst to 105 for 5, after being dropped on five.
Bethesda were routed at reigning champions Llandudno, never recovering from the loss of Aussie Alex Robinson for a duck.
The Creek brothers helped the Parc Villa club to 88 in 52.3 overs, Jamie top scoring with 20, Robbie made 19 and Danny 15, with Romain Grenville taking 4 for 16.
Steve Smith (48no) and Duncan Midgeley (37) steered the hosts home to 91 for 1 in just 23.3 overs.
