FOUR Arfon Masters swimmers returned from the British Masters Long Course Championships in Manchester with another impressive haul of medals.
Stel Farrar, from Dinorwig, and Gill Windle, from Bethesda, had nine medals between them and broke two Welsh records as they broke into the top ten in the British rankings.
The golden girls achieved great success with 2 National (Welsh) records and 9 medals between them. This sees making the top 10 in the British rankings for each of their events.
Farrar had superb gold medal winning swims in the 800m and 1500m freestyle event in the 45 – 49 years age group and currently is top ranked for these efforts. She added medals of all three hues with silver in the 200 metres fly and 100m freestyle and bronze in 200 metres individual medley and the 100 metres butterfly.
Competing in the 40 – 44 years age group, Windle lowered her own Welsh record in the 50 metres freestyle in which she finished second in a strong field.
Unfortunately the record and gold medal position was grabbed by a Cardiff swimmer who finished just 1/100th second faster!
However, the Arfon Master won the bronze medal in the 200 metres butterfly, setting a new Welsh record, and also set a new best in the 100m freestyle. She also got personal best times and fourth place for the 200 IM and the 400 freestyle.
Oggy East, from Tregarth, set three personal best times in the 200m IM, 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle - the latter improved considerably by a massive total of 12 seconds!
Despite having not swum in a 50m pool before, Bridget Edwards - a newcomer to the world of competitive swimming - was very pleased with her efforts in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke for the 45-49 age group.
