TWIN hat-tricks by Dewi John Thomas and Martin McClymont contributed to Holyhead Hotspur earning full marks, as stunning 10-1 winners on the opening day of the Teejac Gwynedd League's season.

Visitors Real Llandudno were given the run-around, as Spurs went 4-0 up by half time and, after being subdued up to the hour mark, suddenly burst free again to rattle in six more goals in the closing 30 minutes.

Thomas achieved his treble after
15, 60 and 66 minutes and McClymont followed suit after 19, 30 and 63.

Singles were added by Anthony Platt later in the first half and then
Tim Adamkiowicz, Nick Dunbarton and Curt Williams all in the closing quarter.

Promoted Rhiwlas, who made their bow after having won the Caernarfon and District title last term, got off to a winning start with a 2-1 margin at Bodedern Athletic.

The visitors' Lee McCormack, hitting the target after just four minutes, laid claim to having scored the first goal of the new season and, after Bodedern's Gary Bolton replied on 21, the decider was a late extra from Lance Williams after 88.

Llanystumdwy beat Beaumaris Town 1-0, because of Steven Owen's 77th minute strike, and Llanfairfechan Town made it 2-1 over Bontnewydd, thanks to Shane Jones scoring on 22 and Rory O'Hagan on 85.

Waterlogged grounds ruled out two games – Bethel v Gaerwen and Porthmadog v Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs.
