CAERNARFON Town's director of football, Aubrey Rogers, made no excuses after the Canaries endured a difficult night at Newtown in Tuesday's Welsh Premier League Loosemore's League Cup tie.
The Group Two game saw the hosts run out 7 - 1 victors aga
inst a Caernarfon side featuring just four first team regulars. Rogers said the Oval management team had chosen to rotate for the contest, and hand outings to less experienced squad players and youngsters – and that the choice had cost them.
He said: "We're making no excuses, we were well beaten and it was a hard lesson for some of the players, and maybe this level is a step too high for them.
"In pre-season two or three of our friendlies were cancelled so we thought about whether we should experiment in the league or in the cup – we know now some of them are not good enough."
Newtown opened the scoring through Neil Mitchell in the 20th minute, and Gavin Cadwallader netted the second. A Mike Jones own goal gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the interval, and second half strikes from Barry Bellis, Mitchell, Cadwallader and Matthew Lewis piled on the misery for the Canaries, whose sole reply came from Paul Addo.
