BANGOR slumped to an opening day defeat at the hands of Llanelli at the weekend.

The Citizens, roared on by a crowd of 959, set about the reigning champions who they vanquished in May's superb Welsh Cup triumph.

However, Nev Powell's men fell behind to a Lee Phillips header in the 21st minute and were unable to respond.

Then, on the stroke of half time, Llanelli doubled their lead through Craig Williams to leave City facing an uphill battle in the second half.

Rising to the challenge, the Citizen's took control of the contest after the interval, but were unable to make the breakthrough.

Captain Marc Limbert had the best chance to get his side back into the game after Steve Evans had been dismissed for handball, but hit the post with an 83rd minute spotkick.
