There has been plenty of grumbling since Qatar earned a surprise selection to host the 2022 World Cup. The odds makers who coordinate football betting at BetUS and were handicapping the several candidates were definitely not expecting this to be the FIFA destination. Since then, many others have claimed that the weather will be so hot that it will be unplayable completely.
Well, here are some more complaints to add to the list.
FIFA Vice President, Michel Platini, is suggesting that the 2022 World Cup not only be hosted by Qatar but be shared by the entire Persian Gulf.
Platini, who is also the President of UEFA, obviously has plenty of clout when he speaks and many ears – from the top soccer organizations down to the common fan – are listening.
The Qatar situation is quickly becoming a mess. After the comments about the weather were made, FIFA President Sepp Blatter came into the spotlight to claim that he believed the Qatar World Cup would be played in the winter – even nothing of the sort had been mentioned throughout the entire bidding process. And now Platini’s suggestion to share – while it might be a good one – is also being questioned as to why it wasn’t brought up throughout the bidding process.
FIFA two lead men were both questioned as to why such dramatic changes are being mentioned – or even discussed – considering what has already been announced but their rebuttal is that the Qatar World Cup is 12 years away. Many people might not even remember is being said right now considering it is in fact a long, long ways away from happening.
Even so, the selection bid was controversial to begin with and it seems that the problems are just snowballing. We’ll see if it does fade into the background or just continue to be an issue in the forefront until changes are in fact made.
