Conwy United 5 Holyhead Hotspur 2
A BRACE apiece for Conwy forwards Paul Cassidy and Toby Jones saw the new Welsh Alliance leaders increase their lead at the top of the table to four points as they ended Spurs’ unbeaten run.
The Harbourmen went ahead as Jay Gibbs turned in a tenth minute free-kick, only for Mark Orme to bundle home a corner three minutes later.
Cassidy opened his account just before the half hour with a 25 yarder that hit the woodwork and went in.
Barry Haigh went close to equalising but Jones netted twice in seven minutes midway through the half and though Mel McGuiness pulled one back, Cassidy rounded off the scoring with 15 minutes to play.
Despite this comprehensive defeat there is still a long way to go and the battle for supremacy in the title race will doubtless see a few twists and turns before we know if Holyhead will return to their rightful place back in the Cymru Alliance.
*THE funeral took place last Wednesday of Neville Jones, a staunch supporter of Holyhead Hotspur and also a prominent Holyhead Town player in the fifties and sixties.
All at Holyhead Hotspur FC wish to express sincere condolences to Neville’s wife Lil and the family.
Llanrwst 1 Caernarfon Town 2
THE Canaries recent good run of form continued with an impressive away win at Llanrwst, thanks to a late volley from new signing Gareth Roberts.
‘Gai’, who joined from Barmouth at the same time that Jonathan Peris-Jones resigned from Holyhead, opened the scoring in the 65th minute with a low drive.
The Rwsters came back strongly and levelled from a Rhys Davies penalty in the 75th minute, which saw Emrys Williams dismissed for handball in the area.
Yet despite finishing the contest with ten men, Caernarfon pressed for the win and got it thanks to Roberts’ cool finish.
