BANGOR City’s stunning unbeaten run may have finally come to an end at Prestatyn, but Blues boss Nev Powell feels the loss will spur his side on in their title push.
A late Dave Morley penalty saw the Citizens win the Farrar Road fixture against the Seasiders on December 27, but in the rematch at Bastion Road on January 2, City’s magnificent 17 game run ended with a 4-2 defeat.
The Blues went ahead through Jamie Reed before Lee Hunt and Ross Stephens gave the hosts a half-time lead, and though Reed struck again after the break, a Steve Rogers double condemned Bangor to their first league loss of the season.
Powell said: “We got the win we deserved on Wednesday night and played well, creating enough chances to win and getting through it thanks to Dave Morley’s penalty.
“In the second game we dominated for long periods, just as we had at Farrar Road, but didn’t put our chances away.
“At two all there was a chance that Craig Garside put the wrong side of the post and after that they went on to win, but that’s the way football goes.”
He added: “We’ve got every faith in the players and you have to be realistic - we’re a part time club and what the players have achieved is amazing.
“If anything the defeat has made us even hungrier for success and we want to win our remaining games before the split before pushing on for the league title.”
City met Llanelli last night at Stebonheath Park and host Haverfordwest County on Saturday in their last home game before the league split.
Powell said: “Haverford West are in good form with a new manager and on paper they are one of the strongest sides in the league.
“The players can’t wait to get out there; the feeling is not one of disappointment because the run has ended, because we all knew that would happen sooner or later.
“The disappointment is because we gave Prestatyn three goals and didn’t take our chances.”
