Lock Stock League Barrit Cup round one

LOCK Stock League leaders Holyhead Hotspur ran aground at Beach Road as a 35th minute strike from Beaumaris' Anthony Hughes condemned them to their third cup exit in a fortnight.

The decider arrived from a well worked move, culminating in Owain Roberts feeding Hughes who beat Spurs netminder Declan Jones.

Jones then kept the Harbourmen afloat as he denied Andy Clarke from the spot just before the break yet though Mike Edwards and Barry Haigh went close at the end of the first half, the visitors were adrift at the break.

Towards the end Holyhead's superior fitness helped them get on top but with Beaumaris defending as though their lives depended upon it, the hosts survived to book a place in the second round.

This Saturday Spurs get back to league action at Denbigh Town and will hope for better.

In the Royal Town Caernarfon Wanderers progressed comfortably with a three nil win over Rhuddlan Town.

Richard Evans set the on their way to the second round after his 29th minute opener, before Jon Sadler added a second (73), and Dillon Peters wrapped things up seven minutes from time.

Gaerwen came from behind to earn their spot in the next round after an extra time battle against visitors Llanystumdwy.

Carl Williams had Llan ahead on the stroke of half time, but Tom Roberts' 69th minute equaliser took the contest to stalemate at full time.

Rhys Evans broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 100th minute and ten minutes later Keiron Lewis made it 3-1 for Gaerwen.

Island neighbours Gwalchmai also made it through with a stunning eight nil win over Halkyn United.  Mark Evans enjoyed a fine afternoon with a hat-trick, whilst there were braces for both Cory Sinnott and Gerallt Jones as well as a Paul Bryant single.

Elsewhere it was Connahs Quay Town P Llanberis P, Denbigh Town 4 Llandudno Junction 0, Greenfield 1 Nefyn Utd 3, Llanrug Utd 7 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3 and Nantlle Vale 0 Abergele Rovers 3.

Welsh Trophy round four

GLANTRAETH were knocked out in the fourth round of the Welsh Trophy in a 2-4 home defeat at the hands of Conwy United.

With the visitors dominating the first half, the Islanders found themselves four down by the hour with Chris Quinn first to score as he poked home in the eighth minute.

Conwy wasted no time in doubling their lead through Jamie Jones, who then added a third before the break.

Jones then completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute to seemingly kill the tie but Glan refused to give up.

They got their deserved reward in the 83rd minute when Graham Jones buried a 30 yarder, and a Craig Evans penalty had Conwy sweating at the end, but it wasn't to be.
In other Welsh Trophy scores, it was Glan Conwy 4 Coedpoeth 3 AET, Holywell Town 3 Gresford Athletic 1 and Llanfairpwll needed extra time to overcome Pwllheli by 1-2.

Lock Stock Division One
Barmouth and Dyffryn United 4 Bethesda Athletic 1

WITH just three wins from nine prior to kick off and a resurgent Caernarfon Town picking up points, Bethesda's worrying slump continued with a 4-1 defeat at Barmouth and Dyffryn United that saw them slip to the bottom of the league.

A number of postponements means that Pesda have three games in hand over their relegation rivals but those extra games will count for nought if results keep going against them.

This fixture was virtually over by the hour as Barmouth notched up a three goal cushion through a first half Gareth Roberts goal that was followed after the break with strikes from Shane Jones in the 50th and 55th minutes.

With ten minutes left Kevin Roberts bagged a consolation for Pesda, only for Jones to complete his hat-trick and an afternoon the Gwynedd side will want to forget quickly.

Caernarfon Town 3 Llanberis 1

AFTER winning their first league game of the season last week the Canaries took three points for the second time this term as they climbed off the bottom of the division.

Cheered on by a superb crowd of around 250 spectators, Caernarfon hit the ground running as Lion Jones had them ahead in the 12th minute.

Craig Green silenced the Oval with a 21st minute equaliser for Llan but after the break the hosts took control and retook the lead with a goal from former Llangefni player Owain Gwynedd on his debut.

And with time ticking away it was left to Jason Jones to seal the points as he struck with a minute remaining on the clock.

Division Two  Bodedern Athletic 4 Amlwch Town 0, Blaenau Ffestiniog 2 Llandyrnog Utd 2
