A COMFORTABLE seven wicket win at Brymbo sets Bangor up for this Saturday’s crucial clash at Mold.
Bangor have been chasing Mold for much of the season in a bid to leapfrog them into second place in the North Wales Cricket Premier League.
And after besting Brymbo, Bangor have the opportunity to really turn the screw on the North East Wales side this weekend.
In last weekend’s game the hosts putting themselves in to bat first, Bangor’s Sion Gwyn (4 for 35) took a heavy toll on the Brymbo batsmen, who were all out in just 29.5 overs for 124 runs.
Opener Matthew Jackson (43) lead Bangor’s reply with 43 runs before being caught by Phil Wilkinson, before unbeaten pair Robert Marshall (16) and Nicholas Roberts (28) carried the visitors over the line with some to spare.
Menai Bridge also had a decent afternoon at home to St Asaph, picking up a winning draw against the visitors.
St Asaph put Bridge into bat first with the Anglesey side totalling 188 all out in 56.1 overs as Andy Skeoch (41) and Gerallt Roberts (31 not out) the top performers.
Bowler Anthony Caddy then played a significant part in frustrating the St Asaph reply with 3 for 35 with 5 maidens as the visitors were held to 133 for 7 in 53 overs.
Bridge will be back in action at home to Brymbo on Saturday.
IN DIVISION One the meeting between Bethesda and Llandudno seconds was cancelled due to a sodden square and outfield.
Struggling Pesda will next take on third placed Conwy.
MENAI Bridge seconds continue to occupy pole position in the Division Two title race with a 116 run win at St Asaph seconds.
The hosts elected to put Bridge in to bat after winning the toss, and the visitors immediately stamped their authority on the contest with opener John Davies scoring 31.
Paul Lucas (59) and Nick Evans (66) were the outstanding performers as they left the visitors chasing 203 for 8.
The hosts’s reply saw them fall short as they made just 87 all out, with Gerallt Jones (4 for 13) and Steve Jones (3 for 18) doing the most damage.
The win sets up an interesting derby clash this Saturday at Ty Newydd against Bangor seconds, who had a weekend on the sidelines after their home match with Brymbo seconds was called off due to the weather.
Meanwhile Anglesey Aluminium’s trip to Carmel and District ended in a crushing nine wicket defeat.
The Pen-y-Gelli bowlers decimated Anglesey’s batsmen, having them all out for a paltry 36 runs, and in 27.3 overs. Carmel’s reply saw them reach 37 for one wicket to take an easy win.
Anglesey will be back in action this Saturday at home to Gwersyllt Park.
