REIGNING Cymru Alliance champions Llangefni Town open the defence of their crown on Saturday at home to Ruthin Town (2.30pm) on the back of a solid 3-0 win over Pilkington FC.
Lee Dixon’s troops won thanks to goals from Mark Evans (30) and a brace either side of half time from Darren Thomas.
During the close season Cefni have lost the likes of Geraint Mitchell, Kevin Lloyd and Liam Shanahan, but with the core of the squad staying together, the champions look in good shape for the new campaign.
Dixon said: “The pre season games have gone to plan; results are not that important and give little guide to outsiders on the team prospects, but in the club we are probably close to our starting 11.
“To go with this then we have the reserves up and running again with us able to bring through the promising youngsters that we have developed at the club through the youth system.”
On Cefni’s hopes for the coming season he added: “It’s hard to see beyond the likes of Rhyl, Connah’s Quay, and Cefn Druids and no doubt Caersws, Welshpool and Porthmadog will have something to say about that; but these clubs and their players may be in for a culture shock and I can see Flint and ourselves in there fighting again.
“We will be aiming for the title again of course and we are looking forward to what is shaping up as the most competitive and exciting season at this level ever."
