NEV Powell’s Welsh Cup heroes took a giant step towards making history as they came away from Finland with a crucial away goal.

No Welsh side has ever made it into the third round of the Europa League, but the Blues are within sight of that target after Chris Jones coolly slotted home a second half chance to level the tie.

Bangor opened with a 4-5-1 formation at Honka's Tapiolan Urheilupuisto, which allowed City to play on the break whilst nullifying Honka’s passing game.

Things did get a little hairy for the Citizens in a tense first half, with Paul Smith the hero as he saved a Markus Paatelainen spotkick.

Two minutes before the break the Blues were behind in the second round qualifier as Demba Savage headed past Smith to put Honka ahead.

But just after the hour the returning Les Davies flicked on a long ball to tee up new signing Jones, and his reply has set the stage for a memorable second leg at the Racecourse in Wrexham next Thursday
