Holyhead Hotspur 0 Flint Town United 2

SPURS did neither themselves or Island rivals and title chasers Llangefni any favours as they succumbed to league leaders Flint Town with a goal in each half.

The New Stadium outfit went close on a few occasions but in general the Silkmen controlled the game, and were aided by the absence of Spurs men Kenleigh Owen, Curt WIlliams and Chris Saxon, all missing though suspension.

Stef Halewood opened the scoring in the 17th minute, picking up a loose clearance and smashing home from 15 yards with a venomous half volley.

After the hour the Harbourmen went close as a poor clearance from Silkman ‘keeper Alan Jones rebounded off McGuinness to roll narrowly wide, but Paul Williams then wrapped up the contest as he rifled a low shot past Mike Doutch.

Holyhead will be hoping for a better result this Saturday as they pay a visit to the Alliance’s whipping boys Gresford Athletic.

Having lost 13 and won just one match this season, Gresford are rock bottom with just five points from 16 games and will surely be no match for the Harbourmen.

Penrhyncoch 2 Llanfair PG 0

LLANFAIR PG suffered their tenth defeat of the season at Penrhyncoch as a goal in each half for the hosts settled the affair.

Following a first half stalemate Elwyn Edwards put the hosts ahead just after the break, before Gary Lewis scored Penrhyn’s second just after the hour.

This Saturday Llanfair host Mold Alex and will be looking to pick up some points from the mid table side in a bid to move away from the bottom of the division.

Ruthin Town 2 Llangefni 5

A DARREN Thomas brace along with a fine debut performance from new signing Mark Evans helped Llangefni to three easy points at the Ruths.

Thomas took his season’s tally to 16 with two goals in four first half minutes, rising to nod in an Evans’ cross (33) before Lee Craven then set up Cefni’s hitman to head into the net.

After the break the visitors added a third just two minutes after the restart, Evans again the provider as Chris Williams scored low to the keeper’s left.

Substitute Darren Gowans hit a trademark left footer in the 64th minute after being picked out by a superb Warren Gibbs pass before Evans got a debut goal in the 67th minute, looping a header into the Ruths goal.

Five goals to the good and with Thomas replaced by Kev Lloyd due to an ankle problem, Ruthin pulled two goals back through a Williams brace, the first coming in the 72nd minute as he chipped Shaun Pearson.

Williams then nicked a second from a poorly defended corner in the 80th minute.

BOTH Caernarfon’s match at Denbigh and Bethesda’s game at Mold Alex were postponed, but both sides will be back in action this Saturday as the Canaries head to Guilsfield and Latics host Penrhyncoch.
