CITIZENS boss Nev Powell has his players fired for tomorrow night’s Farrar Road clash with NEWI Cefn Druids, as Bangor look to pick up where they left off last decade.
The Blues ended the noughties with a flurry of 16 goals in four games before the deep freeze led to New Year games at Porthmadog and Neath, being postponed.
Now Powell wants his side to get back in the swing with a win in front of the Farrar Road faithful.
He said: “It’s going to be a big six to eight weeks for the club and we have got to make sure we keep working as hard as we have been as there are no easy games in this league.
“NEWI Cefn Druids are a good side who earned a draw at Airbus and we won’t be taking them lightly.”
He added: “If we can keep our goalscoring form going then we can keep climbing the table and all I am concerned about on Friday is to have the lads all fired up and ready to go.”
City were boosted this week by the signings of Nicky Ward and Matthew Hurdman, from Newtown and Wrexham respectively, and Powell was delighted to welcome them to Farrar Road.
He said: “He (Ward) ticks all the boxes. He won the league with TNS and can play up front or out wide as well as in the middle and we’re very grateful we’ve got his services.
“He just wanted to sign and talk about Bangor City football club and not about finances, and that’s the type of player you want to work with.
“Hurdman is a young, gifted midfielder and, like Nicky, he wanted to play for Bangor City.”
One player missing from Friday’s line up will be Dave Swanick, who suffered a ruptured achilles against Porthmadog on December 27.
Powell said: “He had an operation in the early part of the season after struggling and we thought the operation had cured it.
“Obviously it hasn’t and he may be out for the rest of the season, we’ll have to wait and see; it’s a blow to be fair as he was getting back to full fitness, going down the right and whipping in crosses, but we have Clive Williams and Peter Hoy to cover.”
