 SWALEC Plate Round One

Llangefni 3 Mold 14

Llangefni’s hopes of progress in the Swalec Plate came to a swift end at Mold where they were overwhelmed in the second half.

Llangefni took the lead through full-back Arwel Roberts, who kicked an early penalty but from that point on it was all Mold. They eventually got the points they deserved with tries from second row Ian Cleworth and wing Richard Hopkins.

A penalty from reliable outside-half Dan Edmunds completed the scoring for Mold.

Bethesda 23 Caernarfon 19

LATE cup cancellations meant that a Bethesda XV met a Caernarfon XV in friendly competition.

The meeting, which brought together two old foes, saw a blend of first team and reserve players turn out for what proved an interesting contest.

Pesda took an early lead after initial pressure by Caernarfon, as back rower Dylan Hughes touched down, before Paul Thomas added another.

Caernarfon came back with a try of their own and after the break went ahead with a try from Gareth Williams that Dominic Yau converted.

Bethesda started the fight back when hooker Steve Roberts bullied his way over with a storming run that brought the home side to within two points.

The last ten minutes of the game became a nail biter with the home side going for glory and Caernarfon stubbornly resisting.

In the final minute Iwan Williams scored the deciding points after exchanging passes with Iwan Williams crossing and Matthew Parry converting for the win.

Holyhead 11 Llangoed 49

A SECOND half rampage by the visitors saw them coast to victory over Holyhead after a well matched first half.

The visitors, obliged to invert their shirts to avoid a colour clash, were dominant at the start with two tries in three minutes through skipper Huw Roberts and Paul Taylor.

Holyhead retaliated with a Matthew Robertson penalty and soon after winger Bruce Roberts left everybody standing for a try in the corner.

A further penalty for Robertson put the home team back in the game, but Llan scored two more tries through rookie Steve Jones and Paul Taylor, and set the stage for the second half rampage, as Taylor completed his hat-trick.

There were tries for Geraint Parry, Robat Davies, Emlyn Williams and Keith Griffiths plus two conversions for Owen Humphries.

Bangor 16 Caernarfon 10

BANGOR’S youth side went to the top of the Youth League North West following a fine win over Caernarfon.

The hosts dominated the first half and were ahead in the 15th minute through a Jonni Hughes penalty.

Hughes then doubled his tally before converting a good try from Rhodri Parri.

The Cofis replied after the interval with tries from Morys Williams and Ioan Jones.

Hughes completed the scoring to seal the win as Bangor celebrated going top of the youth league for the first time in many years.
