City aim to build on six-goal rout

BANGOR City will hope to build on last week’s brilliant 6-2 victory as they prepare to host Newtown at the Book People Stadium tomorrow evening (Friday November 2).

Nev Powell’s men find themselves in third position in the table, equal with second-placed Airbus and The New Saints, and one point behind leaders Prestatyn Town, after the first third of a very open campaign so far.

With ten matches remaining until league is split into the higher and lower playoff divisions, Powell will be hoping for a victory tomorrow evening to further enhance his side’s chances of qualifying in the top six come January.

City will still be without skipper Jamie Brewerton, while Damien Allen and Les Davies are rated as 50-50 for the clash, while the long-awaited return of midfielder Craig Garside comes as a boost.

The hosts will be wary of the threat posed by Newtown, who inflicted a 3-2 defeat on the Citizens during their last meeting at Latham Park earlier in the season.

However, City will be confident of gaining a result after they made a convincing return to form at the Deeside Stadium as they put the Nomads to the sword.

In an open start to the match, it was Mike Robinson who drew first blood for the hosts with a 20th minute header, before City levelled the scores seven minutes later when Peter Hoy headed home a Sion Edwards corner.

This sparked City into life, and just five minutes later they went ahead through Chris Simm’s powerful drive, and soon after they were two clear when Chris Jones converted a low cross from Hoy.

The second half saw Les Davies get on the scoresheet with a thunderous volley, before Chris Jones notched his second on the hour from close range.

Ex-Citizen Ricky Evans saw red the hosts after kicking out at Jones, which seemed to end any hope they had of getting back into the game.

Les Davies headed home a Peter Hoy long throw to make it six, before Nomads’ Jamie Petrie grabbed a consolation at the death, but could do little do dampen the spirits of the jubilant Citizens after the final whistle.
