Fitness worries for City ahead of Quay clash

BANGOR CITY boss Nev Powell takes his City side to his old stomping ground tomorrow evening (Friday 26), as they bid to bounce back from a disappointing 1-1 draw at Port Talbot last weekend.

The Citizens travel to the Deeside Stadium to face Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads who lie in fifth place in the Welsh Premier League table, one position behind City.

The teams last faced each other at the Book People Stadium on the opening day of the season, when it took a stoppage time penalty to deny the Nomads a share of the spoils.

City will be wary of the threat posed by Nomads attackers Jamie Petrie, Rhys Healey and Gary O’Toole who have weighed in with 15 goals between them this season, as well as former Farrar Road era Citizen Ricky Evans, who regularly bosses the midfield.

Nev Powell will be sweating over the fitness of four key players, Les Davies, Damien Allen, skipper Jamie Brewerton and Craig Garside, who face a race to prove their fitness in time for Friday’s encounter.

The loss of Allen was caused by an early challenge during City’s 1-1 draw at Port Talbot Town, which saw the former Manchester United propsect substituted just a minute in.

City’s top scorer Chris Simm saw two gilt-edged chances pass him by early on, as the hosts managed to frustrate the Citizens.

However, the Citizens came out for the second half with their tales up, and took the lead early on when Chris Roberts’ tame low shot somehow slipped through the grasp of keeper Craig Richards, for the defenders’ first ever goal for the club.

Simm sqaundered another chance from a good position minutes later, before Port began to exert some pressure of their own, with Dylan Blain coming a crossbar’s width away from equalising.

With just seven minutes remaining, they found a way through the City rearguard, with Lee John was on hand to convert a Cortez Belle pass.

City travel to face Connah’s Quay Nomads on Friday October 26, kicking off at 7:30pm.
