LLANGEFNI Town advanced to the JD Welsh Cup second round with a 2-0 home victory over Borth United.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders produced an efficient display to book their place in the hat, and Chris Roberts’ side go in search of further cup success next Saturday when they host Penycae in the FAW Trophy (2.30pm).

The home side started the game in composed fashion and went ahead on 12 minutes when prolific forward Alan Mark Owen was put through on goal, and he demonstrated his impressive strength to shrug off a defender before finding the corner.

Despite dominating possession for long periods, the hosts were unable to add to their tally in the first period after spurning a host of chances and finding it tough to break down the resolute United rearguard.

Conditions made it difficult for both sides after the interval which led to a number of errors that prevented further goalscoring opportunities, with Kevin Lloyd and Alun Roberts both forcing the visiting custodian into smart stops midway through the half.

They eventually doubled their advantage on 79 minutes when Cai Roberts finished well after a superb individual run from Jack Williams, and although Lloyd spurned another opportunity late on it did not prevent Cefni from seeing out the contest in comfortable fashion to extend their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions.

Prior to the tie, Roberts received the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One Manager of the Month Award from league secretary Ron Bridges.
