LLANDUDNO Albion exited the JD Welsh Cup at the first-round stage after a thrilling 4-3 extra-time defeat to St Asaph City.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One promotion hopefuls were unable to hold on to a 3-1 lead in the second period after controlling proceedings throughout the opening 45 minutes on home soil to bow out of the competition.

The home side raced out to a two-goal advantage at the break thanks to efforts from Joel Lloyd and Dave Maddock, but the away side came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the break and reduced the deficit thanks to a header from former Rhyl star Jamie Brewerton.

Darren Jones’ men regained their cushion soon after when Danial Evans rounded off a fine team move to slot home, but a frantic finish saw City send the game into an additional 30 minutes when a Paul Fleming penalty and a diverted John Terry strike levelled matters at the death.

The visitors booked their place in the hat when Brewerton slotted home his second of the contest to cap off a remarkable comeback.

Llandudno Amateurs’ sensational exploits came to an end as they were finally ousted by third tier side Nantlle Vale.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division side took an early lead after nine minutes, and they extended their advantage after the break with their second of the contest with 39 gone.

Vale responded well and found a route back into the tie on 40 minutes when Rhys Alun converted a chance, and the away side sent the game into an additional 30 minutes when Alun fired his second on the hour mark.

The visitors completely dominated the extra time period and went ahead for the first time when Gavin Edwards converted a penalty on 113 minutes, and they doubled their tally on 115 thanks to a fine strike from Phil Warrington to secure a 4-2 triumph.
