BANGOR suffered another defeat on their travels thanks to a thrilling one-wicket reverse at Denbigh.

The outgoing North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions had nothing to show from their efforts despite battling hard in the field, and the fifth-placed side will hope for better fortune this Saturday when they welcome relegated Chirk to their Ty Newydd base.

Things did not begin well at the crease for the visitors as Andy Clarke disposed of Idrees Ijaz (15) and Andy Williams (4) in quick succession, with Stuart Griffiths also getting in on the act with the prized scalp of David Winter after the opener contributed 32.

Nadeem Rehman and skipper Robbie Marshall were both run out at the hands of Sam Lewis and Clarke on 29 and seven respectively, and home captain Harrison Jones galvanised his side further with the wickets of Sion Evans and Saif Ijaz for 26 apiece.

Matt Kelly (23) was the only other batsman to make it into double figures as the away side set a target of 193 all out from 49 overs.

The impressive Chris Dawson clean bowled Gerally Lyall for 11 early on, and there was further cause for optimism when Joe Lewis (10) and Sam Lewis (12) were despatched by Gareth Edwards and Williams.

Rehman maintained his fine for with the ball thanks to the wickets of Daniel Nixon (23) and Andy Thomas (19), and Edwards added one more to his list of victims in the form of Ben Wilcox-Jones (11) to finish with figures of 2-33.

The one constant in the middle was Jones, who produced a knock of genuine quality before he was eventually run out at the hands of Rehman on 50.

He was aided at the other end by Griffiths, who remained composed throughout the most critical stage of the innings to get the hosts over the line, finishing unbeaten on 34 as they reached their required total with three overs to spare.
