CAERNARFON Town manager Sean Eardley praised his side’s spirit as they marked their JD Welsah Premier League return with a 1-0 victory over Cefn Druids.
The Canaries showed their fighting qualities to claim all three points at The Oval against Huw Griffiths’ Europa League qualifiers, and the Cofis’ boss is calling on his squad to build on this positive momentum when they make the trip to Newtown on Friday (7.45pm).
Eardley, said: “I am absolutely delighted and I thought the boys were terrific. I couldn’t fault any of them against a very good and organised Cefn Druids side.
“They are a decent outfit and kept the ball really well and we knew all about their movement before coming in, but it is going to be like that sometimes and I thought we defended really well.
“It was a fantastic goal from Cai (Jones) and Brads (Sion Bradley) could have made it two just before half time, but I don’t think there was anything clear cut from either side to be honest and I don’t think Rambo (Alex Ramsay) had a real save to make.
“We have got to take confidence from this going forward and I have said that as a manager I will be learning week in, week out as the season goes on, but the spirit within the dressing room is tremendous and although Druids have been involved in competitive action in Europe already I thought we were more than a match for them and nicked it with a fantastic goal.
“We have to build on this now ahead of what I expect to be another tough game next week.”
A cagey opening in front of the S4C Sgorio camera brought little in the way of chances, with Town skipper Nathan Craig chased down a James Davies effort to clear off the line after the forward latched on to a long ball from Naim Arsan.
The crucial moment arrives on 21 minutes when a Craig corner was head on by Gareth Edwards, and Cai Jones produced a stunning volley on the turn which left the keeper with no chance.
