A PRESTATYN Sports legend has decided to re-join the squad ahead of their historic first game in the third tier.

Gareth Walsh, who is one of the greatest goalscorers to ever play for the club, has returned to the fold after a two-year absence as they head into their first Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One fixture at Barmouth and Dyffryn United this Saturday.

Walsh was part of the Sports team that secured a memorable quadruple in 2015, and after discussions with the management team he has decided to resume his playing career for the ambitious side.

He is a hugely popular figure who provides a massive vocal presence both on and off the pitch, and his physicality and ability to find the net on a consistent basis will be a significant asset to have during difficult stages of the campaign.

Sports are about to embark on this standard for the first time in their history, and it represents the biggest challenge the club has ever faced following a meteoric rise through the Welsh football pyramid.

A post on the club’s Facebook page, read: “A trip into the unknown as the league is concerned, pre-season has gone well and real character has been shown by all so massively proud of everyone.

“In our first season in 2013 we played Barmouth Reserves in the junior cup and they were really fancied to win it, we went on the long trip with barely a squad and most of the committee on the bench .

“Manager Mark (Hughes) brought himself on as a sub and scored the winner with five to go and from this day Sports were born.

“Only one member of that squad wiĺl make the journey again, captain Shane Middleman. He will have to show the same passion, desire and determination as that day in 2013 as will all the lads tomorrow new and old.”
