BANGOR got their stuttering North Wales Cricket League Premier Division campaign back on track with a four-wicket home triumph over Connah’s Quay.

The 2017 champions have endured a difficult run of late but a standout partnership from Sohaib Khan and Nadeem Rehman got them back to winning ways ahead of their trip to Hawarden Park on Saturday.

Despite the eventual result the visitors made a hugely impressive start to their time in the middle thanks to an opening wicket stand from Matthew Redinger and captain Martin Burger, who combined for 157 runs before the former was finally ousted by Rehman.

The same bowler also despatched Darren Jones (11) soon after, and Gareth Edwards also made a telling contribution with the wickets of Scott Adams (6), Darren Leach (25), Rob Downey (0) and Rhys Stout (0) to end a superb 12-over spell with figures of 4035.

Redinger proved a far sterner proposition to remove and demonstrated exceptional resilience and an outstanding shot selection on his way to an unbeaten 139 as the away side set a formidable target of 270-7 from their 50 overs.

Things did not begin well for the hosts’ run chase as opener Sion Evans was clean bowled by Mali Auty after making just one, and their concerns grew further when skipper David Winter (26) and Matt Kelly (11) were both sent back to the pavilion at the hands of Leach.

Khan and Rehman’s time in the middle proved to be the difference between the two sides, with the pair putting on 174 before both were removed for 66 and 95 respectively by Leach, who ended the day on 3-68.

This was not enough to prevent the home side from securing a notable run chase, reaching their required total with just two balls to spare.
