AMLWCH Town have issued an urgent plea for players ahead of the new Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two season.

The fourth-tier side are preparing to withdraw from the league unless they get the necessary numbers to compete, which would be a significant blow to a club that exceeded expectations on their way to a fifth placed finish last term.

A statement on their Facebook page, said: “Urgent – Players needed for Amlwch men’s football team 2018/19 Season.

“Amlwch is struggling to sign enough players for the men’s forthcoming season.

“Despite the recent appointment of a new manager and significant sponsorship and funding in place, our 70+ year association with the North Wales League is in danger of ending (for a season, at least).

“Time is running out. Unless we can field a team for a friendly next week, we’ll sadly have to withdraw from Welsh Alliance Division Two.”

Town will also be forced to withdraw from cup competitions despite entering the JD Welsh Cup qualifying rounds, where they are scheduled to take on Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division side Llandudno Amateurs on September 1.

Club officials have set a deadline for next week’s first pre-season match for willing players to come forward, and unless there is sufficient interest they will be informing Welsh Alliance secretary Ron Bridges of their desire to withdraw from the division.

Anyone who is interested in signing is urged to contact the club via their social media channels or contact manager Ryan McKean directly.
